Once you’ve addressed the basics in improving the energy efficiency of your home, what’s next?’ What are the big impact and most cost effective improvements?’ How can you address the structure of your home to make it more comfortable, healthier, and more efficient once and for all?
Join us for an informative program in which we’ll explore some of the typical energy efficiency issues discovered in Arlington Homes and ways to conquer them. Energy efficiency experts with years of experience working in homes in and around Arlington will ‘¦
- Provide an overview of energy efficiency
- Discuss building science and stack effect
- Explain why air sealing and insulation are often one of the most impactful and cost effective improvements you can make on your home.
- Explore air sealing the building envelope (What does it mean? Do you need it? How do you do it? What materials do you need?)
- Delve into insulation (What types are available? What do you need to consider and how do you choose? How much do you need? Where do you need it most?)
- Explore special issues related to attics (What’s the best way to ventilate? Are fans an acceptable option? How best to cool or heat? How to address heating and cooling needs vs storage needs?)
We’ll also discuss the range of costs associated with sealing and insulation, working with contractors, and more. The session will also offer time for Q&A with our experts.
About our presenters
Barbara Englehart is an energy efficiency professional helping improve the comfort, health, and performance of residential and commercial buildings.’ She is the Business Development and Outreach manager for LEAP (Local Energy Alliance Program), the operator of the Home Performance with Energy Star program in Northern VA.’ Barbara is also a business sustainability consultant with Englehart Consulting and volunteer and advisor to the Arlington Energy Masters program.
Adam Letcher is the managing member of The Fifth Fuel. The Fifth Fuel is an Energy Services Company located in Northern Virginia. The company provides energy retrofit services to residential, commercial and industrial clients. They also provide Energy Star certifications and code compliance inspections for new construction projects.
