The Fall Planting Season is starting in October through December, we will be actively engaged in planting trees to enhance our community’s green spaces. Between the Spring and Fall planting season we have been busy!
In May, EcoAction Arlington received a $60,000 donation from the NAACP Arlington Branch supporting environmental justice and tree equity in historically underserved neighborhoods.
EcoAction Arlington and the NAACP Arlington chapter were invited to discuss the Tree Canopy Equity Program on “Listening to America” with Peter Zampa. The news story discusses how trees, urban heat islands, and the fight for environmental justice impact our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to draw more attention to this important issue and are thrilled to partner with NAACP Arlington to continue this important work.
Community Outreach with the NAACP and Interfaith Partners: In our ongoing efforts to expand our impact and strengthen community ties, we are proud to collaborate closely with the NAACP Arlington Branch and a group of interfaith partners. Together, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting, especially in underserved areas. By working together, we can achieve more significant results and create a lasting positive impact on our community.
Preparations for the Spring Planting Season: We are getting ready for the Spring planting season in 2024. We are committed to getting more trees in the ground in the spaces they are most needed and ensuring those trees have a strong start.
Promoting Trees at Community Events We are enthusiastic about participating in various community events throughout the year, alongside our valued civic association partners. These events provide us with fantastic opportunities to promote the benefits of trees and engage with the community. We believe that by working together, we can foster a greater appreciation for our local environment and encourage sustainable practices.
This year we have:
- Planted 127 trees.
- Planted 99 shrubs.
- Organized 6 canvassing events and 6 community outreach events.
- Engaged 121 volunteers in community engagement activities for a total of 656.5 hours.
Program details to get a tree planted in the Spring of 2024 will be posted in late October and applications will be due in early January 2024. For more information check our Tree Canopy Fund page.
