The Site Plan Review Committee (SPRC) community input window for Wendy’s Site – 2025
Clarendon Boulevard is closing on Thursday, September 16. The April 2021 LEED/Sustainability

including 5 additional possible points for Annual Energy Use and Efficient Hot Water Distribution.
These kinds of energy credits are critical to Arlington achieving our goals for carbon neutrality within
the life span of this project. Take this opportunity to weigh in online to urge the development team to
maximize energy efficiency measures and to eliminate the use of natural gas, committing to an all-
electric design. Look for updates on additional opportunities to weigh in at virtual SPRC meetings
anticipated in October and November.
The Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) of the Planning Commission will be reviewing the
Pentagon City Planning Study on Wednesday, September 22, from 7 to 9 PM. The purpose of the
planning study is to develop a comprehensive vision and policy framework for the future of
the Pentagon City Study Area. Its transportation analysis and Green Development Planning Principle
provide opportunities to advocate for making sustainable approaches to transit and biophilic design
a priority for this pivotal area of the County.
Stay tuned for the SPRC Review of PenPlace, the next phase of Amazon’s HQ2, planned for this fall.
The design reflects Amazon’s commitment to the Climate Pledge and goal to be net-zero carbon
emissions by 2040. An August 2021 Zero Carbon Building Assessment estimated the project’s total CO2e
emissions would make achieving Zero Carbon certification “likely feasible.” Look for the SPRC schedule
announcement so that we can push this high profile project to commit to zero carbon.
