EcoAction Arlington is looking for volunteers to help mark storm drains with a ‘œDon’t Dump’ message in the Little Pimmit Run area of North Arlington on Saturday, November, 9th at 10:00 a.m. ‘ This is a great project for middle school or high school students, families, or individuals!
We are marking Arlington’s storm drains as a reminder that’ anything‘ that goes into a storm drain goes directly into our local streams. Our local streams flow’ to the Potomac River, which is a source of drinking water for Arlington as well as neighboring jurisdictions. In addition to protecting our drinking water, keeping our streams and rivers clean helps to protect natural resources for wildlife, residents, and visitors.
What is the process to apply a storm drain marker?
Step 1: ‘ Meet with EcoAction Arlington staff at designated location (which you’ll receive in your email confirmation) to collect the markers, glue, door hangers, and instructions. ‘ A map will also be provided to guide participants to streets that have not been previously or recently marked.
Step 2: ‘ Go out in search of storm drains that do not have markers.
Step 3: ‘ Apply an ample quantity of glue to the back of the marker and affix the marker to the storm drain.
Step 4:’ Hang door hangers in the neighborhood, alerting neighbors to the new markers and the importance of not dumping anything into the storm drains.
Step 5: Update your map, indicating where you added the markers.
Please note that the glue used to attach the markers to the concrete requires warm temperatures and completely dry pavement. This project will be cancelled in the event of rain or very cold temperatures.
