Part 2:’ ‘ Who Should Get an Audit?
An audit can benefit anyone but there are several factors to take into consideration if you are trying to decide whether it’s worth the time and money.
- Are you experiencing cold drafts in the winter?’ Are you uncomfortably hot in the summer?’ Are your utility bills sky high?
- Is your home more than 10 years old?
- Are you interested in learning more technical information about your home’s construction and its performance?
- Do you care about carbon foot printing?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you are a good candidate for a home energy audit.
According to Chris Conway, President of Conway Energy, “A home energy audit takes a holistic look at your home, and provides you a customized plan to improve your energy-efficiency, durability, comfort, and indoor air quality.”‘ That holistic approach is key to one of the principal reasons to go through the process – an audit allows a homeowner to look at their home and its structure as a system.
An audit will also provide you with links to experts to ask questions concerning heating and cooling systems, ductwork, insulation, lighting, appliances, attics, and more.’ Most professionals who provide audits tend to be generous with their time and encourage you to follow up after the audit if you have additional questions they didn’t answer.
Okay, so now you have decided to go for it, but where do you go?’ ‘ The Arlington Energy Masters volunteers are available for a free home energy assessment visit, a good precursor to an audit.’ To schedule a visit, email:’ energy@ecoactionarlington.org or call’ 703-228-6427.
