Tired of seeing trash in our public parks? Well here is your chance to pitch in and clean up!
The International Coastal Cleanup is an annual event sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy, in an effort to collect trash from our worlds oceans. ‘ On September 21st,’ millions of people will participate in the world’s largest volunteer effort for our ocean and waterways. In 2012,’ Cleanup volunteers covered a distance of nearly 18,000 miles and collected over 10 million pounds of trash including weird finds ranging from lottery tickets to toothbrushes. Read more.
Since we don’t have any oceans in Arlington, we decided on the next best thing: Our city parks!
In conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup and Clean Virginia Waterways Day, EcoAction Arlington ‘ has arranged a Four Mile Run Cleanup Event at Barcroft Park on Saturday, September 21st from ‘ 1:00-3:00pm. Barcroft Park is located at 4200 South Four Mile Drive, Arlington, 22206
This is a great event for groups, individuals or families. ‘ We will collect a tally of both the trash and recyclables collected.
Please wear sturdy shoes that can get wet. Long pants and sleeves are a good idea to avoid poison ivy. Gloves, trash bags, tally sheets, snacks and water will be provided.
