2025 Spring Tree Canopy Program Application

Please fill out this form to apply for trees to be planted in Spring 2025. If you are requesting multiple trees, then you must complete a separate application per tree. Application Guidelines

For the spring of 2025, we are limiting applications as follows: 1) Residents of single-family homes and townhomes may apply for up to 2 trees and 2) Other properties including apartments, condos, and places of worship may apply for up to 10 trees. IMPORTANT - because of limitations on funds available for tree planting, we have set caps for all species listed below. If a tree listed on our species list is NOT listed below, it is no longer available and you will have to select an alternative species.

Cancellation Policy

Participants who change their minds about getting a tree after applying are none-the-less requiring large amounts of time and expense on the part of EcoAction Arlington and the many volunteers who support this program. If you need to withdraw your application, please notify us by February 15, 2025 in writing and include a reason for the withdrawal. We reserve the right to not accept future applications to this program from anyone who withdraws their application without a reasonable explanation. IMPORTANT - because of limitations on funds available for tree planting, we have set caps for all species listed below. If a tree listed on our species list is NOT listed below, it is no longer available and you will have to select an alternative species.

Important Update - Please read this update to guide your planning for the availability of trees in the future starting on July 1, 2025 (fiscal year 2026). This information is especially important for any applicants seeking to plant trees in 2025 to meet the requirements of the Stormwater Utility Credit Program

At this time, there is no committed funding enabling EcoAction Arlington to provide tree planting in fiscal year 2026 (FY26: 7/1/2025 to 6/30/2026). In order for the program to continue, we will need to secure new funding. We are also anticipating the tree planting program may go through some changes in FY26. With these factors in mind, there is a possibility that once funding is secured, there will only be one opportunity for applying for trees next fiscal year: the spring of 2026. The anticipated deadline would be in January of 2026. Recognizing that we don’t know if we will be able to provide the opportunity to apply for trees to be planted in the fall of 2025, we strongly encourage everyone interested in planting trees in 2025 to apply now for trees to be planted in the spring of 2025. The deadline for these applications is January 7, 2025.

Please upload a SKETCH or MARKED MAP of the property showing planting location.*

Your map or sketch should show where the tree will go on your property. If you are planting multiple species, one map/sketch per property is fine. It can be as simple as a square to mark your house, with a front or side entrance, a labeled street, and an X indicating the planting location. You can draw this on a piece of paper and submit the photo. Or you can take a screenshot in Google maps with an X marking the planting spot, and the street names visible. See below for sample. This sketch makes it much easier for the planting crews and Miss Utility to locate the spot. NOTE - a sketch map is REQUIRED. If you can't upload a sketch, please upload a letter of explanation as a Word Doc. Max file size is 6MB.

If you are a larger property (i.e. condo/HOA or apartment complex), please upload a MAP showing planting location.*

Providing a map is mandatory. Please use a high quality site plot that clearly shows buildings and streets. This map is critical for the planting crew. Only one map per project is needed. You must include a key indicating which species is to be planted in each location.
