Thank you to the 60+ people who came out to the EcoAction Arlington Annual Meeting last night and many thanks to Whole Foods Market Arlington for the delicious refreshments enjoyed by all!
The program, Combating Climate Change: From Policy to Practical Action, offered a global view of climate change, highlighting the impact on everything from economics and infrastructure to farming, food, and wildlife around the world and right here in our country, featuring a presentation by Andrea McGimsey with the Climate Reality Project.
From there the conversation shifted to what’s being done in Arlington County to combat climate change, with Rich Dooley, Arlington County Department of Environmental Services/Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy, focusing on the County’s participation in the Georgetown Energy Prize (stay tuned for details on this big one!).
Then, we delved a little deeper into specific actions each of us can take to have an impact, like switching over to LED light bulbs with a presentation by David Cramer, of Colonial Electric/Annapolis Lighting about what you need to know to make the right lighting choices.
We also welcome new and returning members of the EcoAction Arlington Board, including three new student members from Washington-Lee and Yorktown High School. Stay tuned for updates on our board and details how you can let your voice be heard concerning the FY2016 proposed budget.
In the meantime, enjoy these photos from last night …
