Josephine Brook
Yorktown
Josephine is a sophomore at Yorktown High School. Josephine enjoys spending a lot of time outside, skiing, biking, and playing golf. One of the things she learned from her grandmother, is that it is important to take care of our environment. On walks along a beach, her grandmother would take a bag to collect any trash or recyclables! Josephine is excited to be part of EcoAction Arlington because, like her grandmother, its members want to preserve outdoor spaces for future generations by fostering environmentally friendly and sustainable practices.

Andreas Chrysanthou
Arlington Tech
Andreas is a senior at Arlington Tech. He enjoys robotics and gardening. Andreas cares deeply about the environment and has been volunteering with EcoAction Arlington since 2017. He loves to volunteer for stream cleanups and hopes to help promote and improve EcoAction Arlington’s impactful events.

Arianna Hellman
Washington-Liberty
Arianna is a senior at Washington-Liberty High School in the second year of the IB program. Among other activities, Arianna is co-captain of the school’s speech and debate team and writes for the school newspaper. She enjoys biking on the trails near her house and taking pictures of nature. Prior to starting high school, Arianna lived overseas in England and Honduras. Arianna has a passion for taking care of the environment and looks forward to working with local schools on sustainability initiatives through EcoAction.

Sonia Jackson
Flint Hill
Sonia is a 10th grade student at Flint Hill School, where she is Vice President of the Environmental Club. Environmental issues have always been important to Sonia and her family. She is especially interested in advocacy and joined the EcoAction Student Board to help make a difference in Arlington. Sonia is also a member of the Arlington Students for Climate Action group, a certified stream monitor to evaluate Arlington stream health, and helps to restore native ecosystems at Arlington Bon Air Nature Park. This summer she will participate in the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)’s intern educational series program.

Alexa Newman
Yorktown
Alexa has always loved the outdoors: From the trees in the backyard to the Shenandoah mountains, being in the natural world grounds Alexa and inspires her to conserve its beauty. The growing issue of climate change has strengthened Alexa’s passion for the environment, and being a member of the student board for EcoAction Arlington has shown her the importance of building a sustainable community. Through events like stream clean ups and the tree canopy fund, Alexa represents the younger generation and their fight for a cleaner future. She hopes to use the knowledge gained by being on the board in college to further educate those around her.

William Vandell
Yorktown
Will is currently a senior at Yorktown high School. This is his first year working with EcoAction Arlington. Will is eager to do more hands on work with the organization. His main goal is to help improve the Arlington community.

Eva Vinik
Georgetown Day
Eva is a sophomore at Georgetown Day and has volunteered at EcoAction since 2023. Eva is excited to promote sustainability through the student committee. Eva organized a phone banking initiative that made 10,000 calls to potential voters in Georgia. She is also on the board of the Jewish Youth Climate Movement—a Gen-Z led group committed to climate justice. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, biking, and playing soccer in Arlington’s outdoors.
